Dynamic analysis of traction motor in a locomotive considering surface waviness on races of a motor bearing

Abstract The traction motor is the power source of locomotive. If surface waviness occurs on races bearing, it will cause abnormal vibration and noise, accelerate fatigue wear, seriously affect stability safety transmission. In this paper, an excitation model coupling time-varying displacement contact stiffness excitations adopted to investigate effect bearing under from locomotive-track coupled system. detailed mechanical transmission path internal/external (e.g., wheel–rail interaction, gear mesh, internal interactions rolling bearing) locomotive are comprehensively considered provide accurate dynamic loads for motor. Effects wavenumber amplitude its neighbor components investigated. results indicate that controlling avoiding being integer multiple number rollers helpful reducing noise
